Just another day at the office

As the title states this is just another day for me as a construction lackey. We were sent to repair a leaky curb stop and pulled the direct tapped corp stop rite outta the old asbestos concrete main, then it became a full on shit show as seen here. It was a wet tie in.......had to cut open the main with the diamond chainsaw and drain like 300m of 6' mainline to fix it so I got wet as hell lol. These are the fun days at work when things get interesting. As far as the capture, this was taken by my dad with his point and shoot cannon camera it turned out pretty damn nice considering. I did a tiny bit of editing to sharpen it up but that was about it. Sometimes you can be surprised by how crisp a cheaper camera or even a cell phone pic can be, do not be afraid to take pics even if you dont have nice equipment you never know it could be a gem...................PS kiddies stay in school lmao

A lonesome bear cub

Here is a little baby black bear we found on the side of the road rite past Georgie lake one day, it seems as though mom was nowhere to be found but I stayed my distance anyways (you never know). We called the conservation officer after a long time in hopes that someone could help it (by this point I assumed mom was dead or gone) but life is tough out there and poor little cub had to make it on its own that day. As far as the exposure I was using my cheap tamron 70-300mm zoom that is soooo hard to take pictures with only having up to f 5.6 and no vibration reduction and the slowest focus motor you have ever seen hands down. So I proceeded to get as steady as I could opened the f stop as wide as i could, turned my iso to about 400 for a quicker exposure, zoomed to 155mm for the first and 200mm for the second, then miraculously it focused (usually have to use manual with this lens) and voila a few half decent photos were born.

Merry Widow sunset

Here are some picks from the old mine site on Merry Widow mountain that is over 100 years old now, if you want to learn about the site check this link and look at history for some more info http://www.grandeportage.com/i/pdf/MW%20_Report200509.pdf . We finally got some time away from the kids and took the UTV up the mountain for some adventure and just happen to capture this amazing sunset. The first pic is a 9 picture HDR panorama, 3 exposure values for 3 separate frames, each frame shot 30° offset from the last on the tripod if that makes sense to you. The second is just a plain HDR 3 exposure value overlap to show the off an extreme dynamic range of lighting offered by mother nature herself absolutely no light pollution out here. Light room was used to pull out more color but honestly the originals are not that far off from these it was a beautiful night. Hope you enjoy looking at these as much as I did shooting them.

Baby Tern

One day while boating in the lake we came across this young tern wandering around by itself on the shore, mom was probably watching us from above and we probably should of left it alone but it was too darn cute not to pick it up and take some shots. Not much to say about this one I took this in my beginning days of owning a DSLR and this was shot on auto, knowing what I do now I would have changed the F stop one or two values to get the tail end in focus but I am still happy with the shot overall. Hope you enjoy this little bundle of fur as much as we did that day!

First west coast trip of the year

Hi guys well this is the first post ever to kick this off ill share a picture of our trip to grant bay last weekend. It was a windy, sunny, snowy, rainy, kind of west coast day, but with all the seasons in one day mother nature provides some interesting lighting for photography. I did not get many photos in focus as I was trying manual focus on the fly on everything that day just for the hell of it and only got a few nice ones. With that said here is my son Spencer watching the monster waves smash the beach while we cook hot dogs behind him on the fire. The picture is a bit out of focus and underexposed as I was metering in the sun previous to this and just turned refocused and shot, but I am ok with it still captures a child's curiosity well
